An inmate of the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) died during a transfer from a state prison located in Miami – Dade County, as reported by the Alberto News website.

As a result of the act, the state agency placed ten of its officers on administrative leave and another resigned.

Although the FDC has not given details of what happened, in a statement recently published in the Miami Herald newspaper in which it indicates that the inmate died on the 14th in a confrontation with prison officials during a transfer at the Dade Correctional Institution , located south of Florida.

The FDC vouched for a full investigation to ensure safety, and while those investigations are still ongoing, they chose to place ten of the officers on administrative leave.

Recently, the director of this prison had been replaced and the new head is conducting a review of the facility’s operations.

FDC Secretary Ricky Dixon, in office since last November, said that despite his unwavering support for his staff, he will be relentless in disciplining staff who act outside the ethical standards of the profession and will hold them accountable for their actions. actions, including possible criminal prosecution.

“Although this is an open criminal case, I have been in close contact with FDLE and have placed those who had close contact with the inmate on administrative leave, ” Dixon explained in statements to Alberto News.

The Miami Herald, citing a former FDC employee, reports that several inmates were injured during the melee, which included heavy blows to the face and chemical gas.

The Florida Department of Corrections is the third largest state prison system in the country, with about 80,000 inmates, and is the largest agency in Florida, with 24,000 employees.
