The parents of the teenager accused of last Tuesday’s shooting at a high school in Michigan, where four people were killed and seven were injured, were charged Friday with involuntary manslaughter.

Oakland County (Michigan) prosecutor Karen McDonald told a press conference that James and Jennifer Crumbley, parents of 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley, will be charged with four counts each of involuntary manslaughter. If convicted, they could receive up to 15 years in prison each.

The prosecutor detailed that they will be charged because the gun was purchased by the father while Ethan was present. Later, the teenager posted photos on his social networks of the gun. Even the mother wrote messages on social networks, where she stated that her son was “trying out his new Christmas present”, reported Efe.

McDonald claimed that Ethan’s teachers notified the mother that her son had been looking in class for information with his phone about ammunition, without getting a response. What Jennifer did do was have an exchange of text messages with Ethan about this matter, in which she advised him not to let him get caught another time.

In addition, the prosecutor added that the parents kept the gun in their bedroom without keeping it locked up.

On the day of the event, when news emerged that there was an active shooting at Oxford High School, Jennifer sent a text message to her son telling him “Ethan, don’t do this.” The father then called the hotline to report that his gun was missing and that he believed his son was the perpetrator of the school shooting.
