More than 160 Venezuelan migrants were detained by authorities after they entered the United States through the southern border with Mexico, through the state of Texas, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The agents found two groups of migrants on Sunday, one of 48 and the other of 120, in the town of La Paloma.

In a CBP press release, they indicated that when interviewing the Venezuelans, they said that they had been staying in an accommodation in Matamoros, Mexico, of which they could not provide the name.

The immigrant groups are made up of 86 single adults and another 82 people who made up family groups. The ages range from 3 months to 74 years.

According to data from the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), there are more than 5.9 million Venezuelan migrants and refugees around the world since the humanitarian crisis broke out in Venezuela.

From this November 29, migrants in the United States will not be able to be deported just for being undocumented , that is, for not having legal residence papers in the United States in accordance with the regulations.

“No foreigner can be deported just for being undocumented,” Alex Gálvez, an immigration lawyer practicing in Los Angeles, California , told Univisión .
