Hundreds of antique rugs valued at more than $250,000 have been stolen from a storage unit in Miami-Dade, South Florida,  7 NEWS  reported

The victim identified himself as Farid Khavari and told 7 NEWS that he has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars after thieves attacked his storage unit in southwest  Miami-Dade.

“We lost between $200,000 and $250,000,” said Farid Khavari.

The incident occurred at A+ Storage on Southwest 137th Avenue, near 128th Street.
Khavari said someone was able to get through the doors, past the elevator keypad, up to the third floor and cut the lock.

“When I got there, I saw there was a big lock, which I had, it wasn’t there ,” Khavari said.

It was replaced with a smaller padlock, he said, and the way it’s placed there doesn’t even keep the unit locked.

Khavari stated that all of this was filled with rugs, showing the empty part of the storage unit.

He said many expensive rugs were taken, including two vintage ones that he said were worth $50,000 to $75,000 each and that the thieves knew the value of what they stole.

“There were like 15 or 16 other rugs, some between $5,000 and $10,000; another $500-$2,000 and some ,” Khavari said.

He also said that several large body toning machines and other equipment were also stolen.

Khavari suspects that they had to be large and bulky subjects to be able to move all that and also in such a short time, he calculates that the entire robbery took between 5 or 6 hours.

She stated that the storage office staff told her that they had some kind of problem with their credit card payments, so on January 7 they went to check if they had moved.

It was then that they noticed that something had happened.

Khavari has since filed a police report with Miami-Dade police.

On the other hand, the Miami-Dade police authorities have not yet provided any information regarding this robbery.
