The Florida Lottery since 1988, the date of its creation, has contributed with education for a sum of 41,000 million dollars.

According to information from the state authority, a monthly transfer of a portion of each ticket sold was made to the State Educational Improvement Trust Fund.

The Lottery has averaged more than $5.9 million per day in contributions to education so far in fiscal year 2021-22.

Florida Lottery Secretary John F. Davis stated, “Our goal is for every student in every corner of Florida to know that a better future is within reach.”

In addition, he indicated “we believe that education is the catalyst to change the trajectory of the lives of students, and it begins with us supporting the students of today as they aspire to learn and achieve greatness as the leaders of tomorrow.”

In this sense, public education continues to depend on state budgets and contributions from the payment of property taxes.

According to the report, Florida’s public schools have received more than $21.9 billion, while higher academic institutions such as colleges and universities have received a combined $11.1 billion over the course of 34 years.

The Florida Lottery has contributed $7.4 billion to the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, enabling more than 900,000 young people to attend college since 1997.

The practice of lottery in Florida was finally approved by 63.57% of the electorate who went to the polls on November 4, 1986.

It was adopted with the order to provide a significant amount of all income generated by the sale of tickets to state education and established as of January 12, 1988.

According to the published report, the Florida lottery generates tickets for more than 7,500 million dollars, of which 66.5% is allocated to prizes, 25.5% to education, 5.6% commissions to issuers, 1.4% ticket seller fee and 1.0% in administrative expenses. Source: Diario Las Americas.
