In the early hours of Thursday a fire broke out in an apartment building in Miami Beach.
The cause of the fire could be from a cargo scooter, as reported by Local10 .
Miami Beach firefighters rushed to the St. George Apartments on Euclid Avenue around 3:30 a.m.
“(I) grabbed my cat, put it in the suitcase and ran downstairs,” Lauren Devico said. “There was a group of boys… they were passing by. They started knocking, ‘Open this door here to see if someone was inside.’ Luckily there weren’t. The door opened and smoke came out everywhere ”.
Crews say they managed to get the fire under control shortly after arriving at the scene, and that the fire was limited to one unit.
A tenant said he plugged in his scooter to charge it and it caught fire.
There were no injuries.
Miami Beach firefighters said 15 residents were evacuated and power to the building was shut off as a precaution.
