The pandemic seemed to recede in 2021, but with the arrival of winter and most countries lifting restrictions, the new omicron variant has become the main cause of contagion in the world. One of the concerns is the time in which one person can infect another.

The variant that emerged more than a month ago in South Africa is much more contagious than COVID-19 and the Delta variant according to the latest studies and although it is not as serious, it presents symptoms similar to flu but stronger.

In how many days do the symptoms of the omicron variant appear? Unlike the other variants, if a person is infected with omicron, the incubation time will be shorter, since it only takes three days to develop symptoms after being exposed to the virus.

In the case of the Delta and the original coronavirus, this period ranged from 4 to 8 days.

For how long is a person infected with the omicron variant contagious?

A person infected with the omicron variant can begin to infect others one or two days after testing positive or presenting symptoms, although it is estimated that 48 hours before testing positive this person can already infect more people.

The infectious period of contagion is estimated to last 8 to 10 days in moderate cases and an average of up to two weeks in severe cases. In people vaccinated with two or three doses, a shorter duration of symptoms is observed.

United States hit by omicron

So far, there are a total of 305,001,300 cases and 5,484,251 deaths. According to data from the United States Johns Hopkins University count.

With the drop in temperatures in the northern hemisphere, a rebound in cases is beginning to be seen in European countries and the United States, remaining the country with the most cases and deaths since the pandemic began, with a total of 59,767,221 confirmed cases and 837,262 deaths.

An impact like that of the coronavirus was not seen in almost a century and with death figures higher than those of the First World War. Given the need to collect the figures to measure the blow, different platforms have emerged in which the contagion figures on each continent can be followed in real time.
