The renowned opera singer Plácido Domingo will give a gala concert at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.

The recital is scheduled for January 13, organizers reported.

“On January 13 we will have the first gala concert of this year and his name speaks for itself: Invita Plácido Domingo,” says a statement from the Bolshoi, reported ElNacional.

Along with the Spanish maestro, other “leading figures from the world of opera” will take the stage of the mythical Russian theater, including the Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu and the Dutch Eva Maria Westbroek, the note adds.

Throughout 2021, Plácido Domingo offered several concerts in Russia, a country that always received him with open arms, even when other well-known venues canceled the tenor’s performances due to the sexual harassment scandal.

Placido Domingo

José Plácido Domingo Embil was born on January 21, 1941. He is a Spanish opera singer, conductor and artistic administrator. He has recorded over a hundred complete operas and is known for his versatility, performing regularly in Italian, French, German, Spanish, English and Russian in the most prestigious opera houses in the world.

Although he was primarily a lyrical-spinto tenor for most of his career, especially popular for his Cavaradossi, Hoffmann, Don José, and Canio, he quickly moved on to more dramatic roles, becoming the most acclaimed Otello of his generation.

In the early 2010s, he made the transition from tenor repertoire to exclusively baritone roles, most notably Simon Boccanegra. Until 2020, Domingo has played 151 different roles [5] [6].

Domingo has also achieved significant success as a crossover artist, especially in the Latin and popular music genres. In addition to winning fourteen Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, several of his albums have been silver, gold, platinum and multi-platinum.

His first pop album, Perhaps Love (1981), spread his fame beyond the world of opera. The album’s title track, performed in a duet with country and folk singer John Denver, has sold nearly four million copies and contributed to the tenor’s numerous television appearances.

He also starred in many opera films released in cinema and on television, mostly under the direction of Franco Zeffirelli.

In 1990, he began singing with fellow tenors Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras as part of Los Tres Tenores. The first recording of The Three Tenors became the best-selling classic album of all time
