This Monday, a new regulation will come into force, by the aeronautical authorities of the United States, which will affect Cuban travelers.

It indicates that travelers who set foot on North American soil must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

This complicates Cubans who wish to travel to North America, because the immunization doses are not authorized, not by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), or by the World Health Organization.

Cubans are immunized with vaccines made on the island

At present, the inhabitants of the island are immunized against the virus, which has caused havoc with the doses of Soberana 02, Soberana Plus and Abdala, which are not authorized by the health entities of the United States.

The new regulation to be implemented by the US government leaves out the Sputnik V and Cansino vaccines, authorities reported.

About 10 million  Cubans  have received at least one dose of Cuban vaccines, which is equivalent to 88% of the country’s population, according to statistics from the Cuban Ministry of Public Health.

Cuba did not want to join the Covax group

At the beginning of 2021, the government led by Miguel Díaz Canel did not want to be part of COVAX, an initiative focused on equitable international access to vaccines against COVID-19 .

The agreement allows the distribution of vaccines belonging to pharmaceutical companies, Pfizer / BioNtech, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Sinopharm and Sinovac-CoronaVac.

Now Cubans who are going to travel to the United States and are vaccinated or those who received their doses of an unapproved vaccine must show the documentation of a negative test carried out at most one day before boarding, established by the United States Embassy.

Due to the increase in cases of Covid-19, in the United States, the authorities have decided to implement new regulations, for travelers arriving mainly from the Caribbean islands.
