Authorities released on bail a Hialeah couple accused of stealing Florida Lottery Scratch – Offs from Florida.
The couple stole more than a quarter of a million dollars from a local supermarket and the Florida Lottery.
Over the course of several months, Ana Lilian Ramírez Batista and her husband Roberto Montes, devised a plan to defraud the Aries Supermarket, where the woman was a cashier, and take dozens of Florida lottery tickets that had an approximate value of 236 thousand dollars, reported Telemundo51.
The business at 5945 West and 25th Court, Hialeah, lost more than 340 lottery stubs in just a few months, equivalent to about 28,000 tickets worth more than a quarter of a million dollars.
Investigators in the case revealed that Ramírez placed the scratch marks in her husband’s grocery bags when he came shopping at the place where she worked. But on the occasions when this did not happen, the woman herself carried them away hidden in her purse.
According to authorities, the couple cashed multiple winning tickets at the Florida Lottery Office. Both Aries Supermarket and the Florida Lottery itself suffered total losses that exceeded $ 236,000 due to the payment of the correct tickets.
For the investigators in charge of the case in Hialeah, this could be one of the largest robberies carried out in the city to the Florida Lottery.
Both Ramírez and Montes were arrested and are now in the TGK county jail. Both face charges of conspiracy and grand theft.
