Health authorities reported that 10 cases of covid-19 were detected among the crew and passengers of a Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) cruise ship that returns to New Orleans this Sunday with thousands of people on board.

The Department of Health that the more than 3,200 people on board will be tested for covid-19 before disembarking.

“Those who test positive will travel in personal vehicles directly to their own residences or will be isolated according to current regulations in accommodations provided by Norwegian Cruise Line,” the health department tweeted according to Diario las Américas.

The cruise industry has been severely hit by the pandemic, especially after they were suspended in the United States in March 2020, when health authorities issued an anti-shipping order to prevent COVID infections.

Some cruise ships resumed their activities in Europe and other destinations last year, but the ban remained in the United States until recently, when the industry began to revive.

After a year of huge losses, the cruise industry resumed its trips from the United States in May this year, when health authorities gave the green light to travel with vaccinated passengers and crew.

Canada lifted the ban on cruise ships operating in its waters just last month.
