A spokesperson for Florida State University (FSU) said this week that the school is still “working on a master plan” for the three-story downtown building it acquired at the corner of Duval Street and College Avenue.

Currently, FSU’s Office of Real Estate occupies part of the office space in The Clock building at 200 W. College Avenue, said Amy Farnum Patronis. There are no plans to demolish the structure, she added to Tallahassee.

“The building houses some FSU administrative offices, along with private sector leases,” she said in an email. “As the existing leases expire, the building will provide additional space for administrative and support services functions.”

Earlier this year, Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Cabinet approved a swap of three state-owned parking lots near Florida State University for the building to provide more office space for the school.

A Cabinet proposal said the building is “strategically located in close proximity to the FSU campus and downtown government buildings.” Bloomfield Holdings, which is taking over the lots, wants to turn them into “boutique student housing,” according to records.

The state acquired the lots, totaling 1.64 acres, between 1996 and 2003. The three parcels have a combined value of about $3.14 million. The building, valued at $2.95 million, was originally built in the 1950s and last renovated in 1989, Farnum Patronis said.
